Tuesday, October 5th - SWISS CHOCOLATE AND CASTLES!

Today was a "sweet" day. This morning our whole group boarded a bus headed to Broc, Switzerland. Broc is the home of the world famous Cailler Swiss Chocolate...which is the BEST Swiss chocolate!!

We arrived and took a tour of the Cailler Chocolate Factory. Their presentation was like being in Willy Wanka and the Chocolate Factory. We moved from room to room and the presentation was all automated with a narrator, lighting effects, and mechanical objects that moved. It was kind of like Willy Wanka meets "It's a Small World". The tour included the history of chocolate throughout human-kind, its introduction into European courts, and then the specific of Cailler which is now owned by Nestle. At the end of the tour they had a taste testing room where we got to try all different kinds of Callier Chocolate and eat as much as we wanted! Unfortunately I did not see any oompa-loompas, but I looked for them! After the tour I bought my weight in chocolate and overall our whole group of 30 bought around $550 in chocolate!

After the Cailler factory tour our whole group went to a nearby town, Gruyere. Gruyere has a beautiful Chateau that we took a tour through.'This was my first time being in a REAL castle and it was so cool!! It sat on top of a hill overlooking the city and it was all very picturesque. In the castle it was so cool to go from room to room and see the antique furniture, tapestries, and paintings hanging on the walls. I naturally touched almost everything even though you weren't really supposed to. :)

Right outside the castle there were many different shops and restaurants that were classic European style.  These shops were lined with cobblestone streets and it all added to the overall atmosphere and magic of the castle. I would be more than content to one day own a castle! :)

Tonight we got back, ate dinner, and a group of us played a great game of scum. It was a wonderful day! I love it here in Switzerland!

Dinner that night. Steve, me, and Alex. We were always supposed to be prompt for dinner, but I had only a few pages left of Hunger Games which I bought at the SLC airport. It was soooooo good! I decided to not let myself start number II until I get home and have a bit more time to read or at least until the plane ride home. :)
