I openly admit that several of these posts have been recorded after the fact. This blog is my travel journal assignment, but I also want to make sure to record fun things that happen and not to forget any funny experiences that have been happening along the way.
Monday included a wonderful tour of Leysin. The whole town is literally on a hill You can barely walk ten feet without going up or down the mountain. It has the classic European feel with the architecture and cobblestone streets. It also has this great train that comes up from Aigle (the city at the base of the mountain). I think of Leysin as like the Park City of the Alps. It is mainly a snow adventure capital with their main tourist season during winter. For now it is fairly quiet and quaint. We also went to the bank and I tried to pull our Francs, but realized all of my money was in my checking when it really needed to be in my savings account. Thankfully someone else lent me some money for a day until I could transfer money across. We went into this great little super market where I bought a coke and spoke my broken french greeting to the cashier. I think she could tell I didn't speak French because she said something to me and I just smiled and nodded my head. I ended with "Merci" and congratulated myself for "speaking" with a local. While in town we also validated our Eurorail passes to allow us to travel on any train throughout Europe of free!
After our tour of Leysin we took the sweet Gondola next to our hotel, up to the top of the Alps! It was stunning and the view of the valley, Lake Geneva, and surrounding mountains is still indescribably. We all got to the top and took a rampage of pictures! It is nice because there are two people who just have volunteered to take pictures of people and upload them. I always thought it would be a great idea ot hire a photographer to follow you around Europe because then you wouldn't have to worry about not having someone to take pictures and with Jill and Joey taking pictures it makes it nice. We will all get copies of the pictures in the end too! So many of the pictures you might see on this blog were taken by them.
Monday night we played a rousing game of Phase 10 and with my "convenient" help Luci was able to win the whole game. Let's just say that when I know I'm not going to win it is beneficial to have me sitting in front of you to discard helpful cards. It was a lot of fun and everyone knew in the end that I discarded cards she needed twice on the last round. Shannon and Kristin, one of our professors and Internship coordinator, respectively, played with us and we had a riot!
